Blogging for Business – How To Write Blog Posts That Are Interesting, Informative, and Get Readers
Blogging for your business or for your niche market is a way to start a conversation with your readers and keep it moving. But keeping your blog posts fresh, interesting, informative and frequent can be a real challenge.
Prepare your blog
Before you make more than one or two posts to your blog, write down a list of topics that you will cover. You may have many ideas on what to write that readers will want to read, so keep a journal of topics and ideas that you can draw from. You will also want to read other blogs on topics that are similar to yours. You should actually read and comment on several blogs regularly to truly become part of the blogosphere.
Having a series of blog posts on one topic may make your readers more likely to sign up for your feed (your RSS feed) and come back to your blog often. A series of tips is a good way to show your readers that you have thought out what you are going to write about. You may also want to offer them a PDF file of all of your tips that they can easily download from your blog.
Write a post regularly
Make every effort to post to your blog twice a week. Even if you only write one paragraph, it is better to post more frequently. This will help both readers and search engines to find you more easily and get your name and message in front of more people. Adding pictures will also make your blog more interesting. Make sure you use royalty and copyright free photos. Blogging can boost your business tremendously if you stick to it and always give your readers good information.
Blog styles
What should be the most simplest of things can often be the hardest as well. A good thing to blog about would be one of your hobbies for e.g fishing, football, gardening etc. because you would usually have alot to write about this subject so you would have lots of content.
There is another type of Blog, a personal diary style blog. It is written in the first person and relates to happenings in your immediate physical world and other thoughts and bits and pieces on things. I think that it is the hardest type of Blog to write.
I’d recommend starting with a topical blog. Even if it eventually ends up on the blog graveyard later on, it’s much better to develop your blogging skills on a topic as opposed to writing about yourself as an individual.
Google it
It would be a good idea to Google your topic area once you’ve settled on something and see what others are writing about it. Use the keyword(s) and search with “blog” on the end as well, and browse. Take hours if necessary. You’ll figure out pretty quickly whether:
1. The topic has a high number of blogs or low number
2. Whether, in your opinion, there is room for your blog, in particular if you have a different point of view from others because then your blog would be unique from the others.
The most difficult thing about blogging is to limit yourself in what you “blog” about. Remember that your blog might be read by your clients. Don’t blog about anything too personal, avoid politics and religion if you think that your views can adversely affect your relationships with your clients. Limit your blogging to “safe” topics. Avoid coming across as whiny or antagonistic.
It is perfectly OK to blog about your camera equipment. Write about topics that interest you. The more people that read your blog, the more people will link to it. The more valid links you have coming in to your blog, the higher rating you’ll receive from the search engines. And, the higher rating you have, the better chance your blog will come up on the first page of a web search by Google, Yahoo, MSN, or other search engines.
Search the blogging services for topics that interest you, to see samples of what other people are blogging about.
Don’t forget to link to your own website (if you have one) from your blog.
