Google Adwords. Goldmine Or Minefield?

The global financial downturn is driving millions of people to try to earn extra income from the Internet, without losing what little they have.

Many thousands of internet entrepreneurs have succeeded and attained financial security. So what is their secret? How do they get a steady stream of visitors to their website and how do they persuade them to click the “Buy Now” button? By far the majority of marketers use a combination of Google Adwords and Search Engine Optimization.

google adwords Google Adwords. Goldmine Or Minefield?Google Adwords carry millions of small ads every day, for every conceivable product or subject imaginable. So it must be the way to go, right? Sure, many people are making a good living from Adwords and a few can make a fortune at it. But, if you’ve tried it, then you’ll know it the true difficulties involved.

Being potentially very profitable, this market is very difficult to break into. First, you have to learn how this thing works, then you have to constantly improve your ads and you will need to spend money before you find the best performing keywords and the most profitable ads. You can set a daily limit to your spending but just twenty dollars a day will mop up 600 bucks in the first month.

Most popular keywords cost anywhere from 50 cents to 2/3 dollars per click, so twenty dollars won’t buy many clicks and, at a click-through rate of two or three percent, you will not get many visitors per day.

There are only about eight slots for ads on each page of Google, so the competition for these slots, particularly on the first page of results, is very fierce and often very sneaky. Each of the eight “tenants” of those valuable places on Page 1 are striving to get to position one, which, on average, gets over 70% of the traffic on that page and the only way to do that is to push the others down. All the Adwords users on the second and third pages are also fighting to climb up the greasy pole.

It is now possible to buy software that will allow you to spy on details of competitors’ campaigns and to see what keywords they are using and even what they are paying for each keyword, so you can potentially bid slightly higher and gain a higher position. If you do get your ad on Page One or Two, someone will be sniping at you with this type of software. Even if you have gained a comfortable position on Page 1 of Google, it is a constant struggle to maintain that position.

There is an alternative approach to running a successful Google Adwords campaign. You can employ a specialist team of experts, with the experience and the time to do the whole thing for you. The problem is, they won’t be interested unless you’re going to be a big spender on Adwords. That’s why I say that Google Adwords may be one of the most difficult ways to make money on line, certainly for a newcomer with little money to risk.

So how about Option Two? Search Engine Optimization. Surely this is the ultimate solution!

You learn how to design and build a web page which meets all Google’s guidelines (and I’ll tell you what they are) and then you get on Page One, with a page which costs nothing to be there and wait for the money to roll in. How cool is that?

This is all you need to do. Find a suitable keyword phrase (preferably 4 or 5 phrases) which gets at least 100 searches a day and which does not have many heavy hitters in the competition. 1,000 searches a day is obviously much better but is likely to have strong, well-established competition.

Then you need to get a domain name which incorporates the main keyword or phrase and build your web page so that it includes the keywords in the Title of the page; in the Description of the page; in the URL of the page; in the Headline of the page and in the Anchor Text of all links to other websites. That’s not too difficult, is it?

Then, to convince Google that yours is an “Authority” site, you need to get multiple links to your page, from other related sites, dealing with the same subject, whether it is Health, or Family, or whatever. The more important these other sites are, the more weight Google gives to these links. I can tell you, getting these links is hard work.

Here’s a real example. My website is on Page One of Google, for the phrase “Stop Arthritis Pain”, out of 2.1 million results. Last time I looked, it was at position 6, on Page One, and has been there for months. The same search phrase is on Page One of Yahoo (at position 2), out of 21.7 million results. Impressive eh?

I’ll bet you’re thinking “that page must be pulling in a ton of money”. Well, it isn’t. The reason is, that keyword phrase is not a popular search term and only gets about 20 visitors a day, so it makes a few dollars a day but nothing significant. Think about those other twenty million pages, who are getting even less traffic than those on page one.

So, if you can get onto Page One of the big search engines, you may make a lot of money but 99.9% of the pages up there are having no impact at all, in terms of making money for their owners. In many cases, it’s a lot of time and effort for no reward.

A well established method, used by High Street businesses for many years, is gaining credibility in online marketing. Make money by giving stuff away for FREE! We’ve all heard of BOGOF – “Buy One, Get One Free!” How about, “Get this valuable stuff, without buying anything”? Many internet marketers, smarter than I, claim to be making excellent earnings with this method and without the aid of Google Adwords or the Search Engines.

This is a quote from an expert, who has many profitable websites from using these methods -

There is no more powerful way to sell your product than by ‘preselling’ it with free and useful information, typically with a free ebook.

Online Businesses That Don’t Fail

Many people who are trying to dream up a domain name for their business discover just how common a unique idea might be. Welcome to the web! Trying to find a domain name that has not been taken is classic needle in a haystack. You can short-cut the process by doing your keyword research first.

If you know what search terms people are using to find your products and services you can back your way into a domain name that gets more credit in those searches. And that’s just the beginning of understanding how to take an idea online.

What I have also come to discover is that there is a proliferation of people out there with great ideas and many of them may even have an idea similar to yours. EXECUTION is what turns an idea into an enterprise. And that is what separates the men from the boys (and the girls from the women).

Execution is a matter of process. I mean process in the literal sense. A successful business needs a roadmap. No successful business that I know of flies by the seat of its pants and many may get there after a lot of failures, trial and error and sometimes costly ventures. But ultimately, a successful business lands on a formula, a process that allows them to deliver consistent results for their clients.

I work with a lot of people who want to start an ecommerce business for many reasons. For the most part, they all have good ideas and most have a good general knowledge about their wares. But very few know how to manifest their ideas online.

There are two roads to take in light of this. The first is to “jump in” – wing it! The second is to find a process that will work for your business. Even if you have to pay more money initially for the second option, you will save time, money, head-aches and heart-ache by the time your business begins to generate a return. If you go the first route, you may in fact never get there. By our conservative estimate, 70% of new online ventures fail.

The good news is that the process for developing your online business is quite easy to execute if you get a little guidance. Here are some of the basic things you should research and understand before embarking on an ecommerce business.

Keyword Research

Keyword research equals market research. People that skip this step are not only shortcutting the process planning stages, they are undermining their ability to succeed! There are plenty of free resources on the web to not only do your research but also educate you with respect to what you should be looking for.

For example, if you decide that the most general search term in your category is one of the ones you’ll focus on, you might as well just beat your head against the wall! The point is, there might be a LOT of searches relative to that keyword BUT you may never show up in the search engines for it. The scope of this article doesn’t afford time to explain the process of choosing keywords that you can rank for, so I’ll save that for a future article. But rest assured that this is one of the most important steps in the process.

Site Planning

Once you have your keywords, you should begin site planning. We recommend you build your site outline first and then see where your chosen keywords fit into the site map.

Your site outline generally mirrors your site map. You’ll find that the keywords that you have chosen fit under certain headings in your site map. You may have to plan separate pages for specific keywords, and that’s OK. Part of your business planning will be to understand how to write for the web. Plan on a 500-700 word article, appropriate pictures, and apply basic on-page SEO. This gets most of my new clients glassy-eyed again and it will take another article to explain “basic on-page SEO”.

Think Outside The Box

Your keywords define a set of articles. These articles don’t all have to go on your site. You should plan to write articles for distribution as well to help promote your site and start building links to your site. “Article Marketing” is one of the most effective means to promote your products or services and get links referring back to your site. The links, by the way, are keywords hyperlinked to appropriate pages in your site.

Get Connected

Start blogging. Set up a You-Tube channel specific to your business. Set up a social media business page on Facebook. Set up a Twitter account and start following people in your demographic. They’ll start following you too! Get on Linked-in if it makes sense (B2B).

Marketing and gaining business exposure is a function of being a part of the web community. Once your site is set-up with basic SEO guidelines, the search engines will start to find it (if you’ve chosen your keywords carefully). But that’s not enough. You business is not simply just having a website. Start engaging in as much of the social web as makes sense and plan on a significant amount of time reaching out, helping and contributing. The return on your effort will pay off.

Forums are a great way of marketing alongside articles, email and blogging – there is no real way to compare all of these, they are just a different way of communicating. The big difference however with forums is that many many more people will see you and get to know you which builds trust as you interact with the community.

Forums have been around in many forms since the dawn of the internet, they provide a means of conversation with like-minded people in a community-driven atmosphere of helping one another with problems. If you don’t know how they work, let me just tell you a bit about them.

First off, you have to find your forum in your niche, the best way to do this is type in subject forums as the keywords (replacing subject with your topic) into a search engine. Once you have found one in the topic you’re interested in, with a nice community going on, registration is the next step.

Registration is pretty simple, its just a case of filling your details in and perhaps entering a captcha (one of those funny sets of digits and numbers that tell the site that you are not an automated spammer!) You may have to click a link in your email to register the fact that you own the email address you registered with.

There usually is many sub-forums, i would reccomend finding one that usually reads something like “introduce yourself” and post a brief overview of what you are about and say hello. I would advise against just registering and posting “buy my product now” or “come to my website” etc. type comments as you’ll end up with a flame war – if you dont know what that is please do a search on it as its not a nice thing to happen to you!

Get involved in the forum, post replies to people’s problems to help with any questions that you can – its a community-type feeling that you will enjoy. Forums which are busy have the advantage of many more people in the nich you are targeting, so you can find out about some really exciting new widget thing in your niche that is very important to you, and also reply and ask more.

Some forums have a specific buy, sell or trade section where you can sell your products, this is the place to be if you want to directly pitch your product. Another way of pitching your product is to enter links to your website in your signature, this is shown directly under each post that you make and is updated automatically – be careful however, some forums dont like this and will ask you to remove them. Some have rules on the size of images or links allowed, please read these before adding it.

Some of the more advanced forums that run vbulletin have private messaging which can be great to directly carry out business to people privately on the forum, i’ve bought many websites and domain names using this – some sites like digital point have itrader which is also a way of showing how trustworthy the user is in terms of buying and selling, similar to the ebay feedback system.

One last thing to remember, forums are a great place to communicate rather than a place to pitch-fest – if you want to advertise on a forum, but you cant find any other method other than the ones i’ve outlined, contact the owners of the site and ask for banner rates, this is a great way of getting in front of these people, then you have the right to freely talk about your product or service which is a huge bonus compared to advertising on a static site!

The growing popularity of Global Domains International (GDI) has been overwhelming and the accolades received by the organization over the years speak for themselves. Recently GDI was featured in the San Diego Union Tribune, the LA Times, Entrepreneur Magazine and most recently Inc 500 even rated GDI #37 out of the top 500 fastest growing companies in the US. I mention this not only to erase any doubt or scepticism but also because the world is ripe with opportunity now and one should be careful when considering what opportunity to take advantage of. With any online opportunity or MLM traffic will be key but once you’re getting traffic the importance of coaching, duplication and patience play a much bigger role than ever before. You can make money online.

Social Marketing can prove very fruitful for anyone from the beginner all the way to the guru. In fact the more you do it the better you will get, guaranteed! Human nature is a touchy subject and learning what to say and when to say it is key to make money online. This is a great win-win situation! Global Domains International is selling the .ws domains pretty good because .ws domain names are a pretty good alternative for .com names (as you might have noticed, all the good .com domains are already taken, but the .ws isn’t). It’s a great trial and error exercise that will teach you a lot about what gdi Make Money Using Global Domains International (GDI)you’re doing and the people you share it with. There are plenty of sites that allow you to network throughout the community but be sure that your efforts are genuine. To sign up, you must visit a website (mine is below, at the bottom of the article), sign up, and purchase a domain name (for example: www.rarecars.ws) You will receive a 7-day free trial, and at any point, you can quit if you wish. After the trial, the web hosting will cost you $10 a month. For that, you get one website, which you can use for whatever purpose you want, (in most cases, people will use theirs to sell another website to someone else). Furthermore, be helpful more than anything else. People are not as impressed by million dollar sales pitches as much as they are impressed by a quality product, a genuine helper and a truly legitimate income.

The next major realization that I’ve made is the importance of coaching. Coaching is HUGE! As a coach or sponsor your resources must be limitless. You can produce tools and resources yourself or can just point your affiliates in the right direction towards resources produced by 3rd parties. As an affiliate, an important thing to remember is that while resources are important, resourcefulness plays a much bigger role when determining success. Anyone familiar with compensation structure of GDI realizes the value of each affiliate in the downline. In order to increase the value of that affiliate, the sponsor needs teach and mentor until the affiliate is self-sustaining.

Even after an affiliate has learned to provide for their network it is still very important to follow up with them regularly. Everyone loses motivation at times but its up to you to help out and ensure that change will come. Even people who make millions of dollars hit slumps and they too need help getting back up. You should be ready to identify and address any need as soon as possible in order to ensure continuous momentum for you and your team, no exceptions to the rule.

By keeping your prospects fresh and your support abundant, there is no possible way you can fail with any online venture including GDI. In addition GDI lets you start for free which even eliminates all risk. I guess that’s why I’m such a big fan of the opportunity. Or if you would like to discover even more about Global Domains International and want some clear answers to your questions, you can go to and find out if Global Domains International is a scam or not.
